In 1986, the
non-profit organization, Youth Sports Incorporated, retained Landplan
Engineering to develop the master plan for an
80-acre youth soccer and baseball complex. Additionally, Landplan
Engineering provided construction documentation for Phase I of the
project, which included several soccer fields and two baseball diamonds
with associated site drainage and parking improvements. Because of the
intensive use on the relatively flat topography, Landplan designed an
extensive storm drainage system. This included perimeter swales with
tile underdrains collecting water at a detention pond, which is then
pumped into an adjacent creek by a lift station.
In 1990, the City of
Lawrence retained Landplan Engineering to expand the master plan for the
existing site and new lands to the north and south, totaling
approximately 100 acres. Landplan’s master plan process involved site
analysis, evaluation of existing facilities, alternate concept
preparation, and compilation into the preferred Master Plan. As adopted
by the City, this plan involved the addition
of softball and baseball field complexes, parking improvements, soccer
fields and concessions, for a total of nine baseball fields, four
softball fields, 15 soccer fields, five football fields and
approximately 1,000 parking spaces.
In 1993, the City of Lawrence retained Landplan to provide construction
documentation and administration services for the first phase
implementation of the new Master Plan. This work included the
preparation of plans and specifications for improvements including two
fenced baseball fields, site drainage, sidewalks and lighting for the
two new and two existing ball fields.
