Landplan Engineering was responsible for the development of a site master plan, construction documents, and construction administration for this new 3.23-acre neighborhood park in the City of Gardner, Kansas. The site is adjacent to new housing areas and the Gardner Greenway trail system, and is intended to serve the nearby residents as well as function as an extension and turn-around point of the Greenway trail system. The site’s new features include a large shelter, two age-appropriate play structures, informal grass “play-mounds” for running and climbing, open play areas for unstructured play, walking paths, and drainage improvements. Other site amenities include benches, a drinking fountain, and extensive tree plantings around seating and walking areas to create a comfortable park environment. Future improvements include a collection of landscape elements designed to provide recognition of the historic Santa Fe Trail that passed through the park site.
