WESTWOOD HILLS
Lawrence, KS |
Westwood Hills is a 77-lot subdivision in northwest Lawrence, Kansas.
Designed to be constructed in phases, the 40-lot Phase I included
approximately 2,200 lf of streets and 2,800 lf of sanitary sewer. Many
of the streets include landscaped islands. The site’s topography
dictated the need for several detention/retention ponds. Landplan
Engineering worked with the Client to transform these ponds into site
amenities, giving the pond area park-like qualities. Two of the three
ponds were designed for permanent water storage, with the downstream
pond designed as a detention-only dry pond. The upstream pond includes a
surrounding limestone rock wall and a stepped spillway, also constructed
of limestone. Some of the limestone material excavated during the street
construction was reused in the rock wall.
