In 2003, Landplan
Engineering provided design services for the Johnson County Park and
Recreation District through park master plan updates for Shawnee Mission
Park, Heritage Park, and Ernie Miller Park and Nature Center. These
plans will guide the use, development, and management of the parks for
the next 20 years.
The master plan update process included extensive opportunities for
public input through general public meetings, park user surveys,
web-based updates and comment forms, the District’s Activities Catalog,
and special use group meetings. In addition, Landplan conducted meetings
with each of the District’s divisions and departments throughout the
planning process to gain a variety of perspectives and input on the
future use and care of the parks.
Landplan used the body of information compiled from these various
sources to develop a set of desired program elements and goals. The
program guided the development and review of several master plan
concepts for each park. Following a series of meetings with the public
and District staff to review these concepts, Landplan created a final
plan for each park, opinions of project implementation costs,
priorities, and resource management plans.
