Lift Station Design

Lift stations on sanitary sewers systems, often referred to as pump stations, provide the ability to link gravity flow sanitary sewer networks. Lift stations may be designed as permanent parts of systems or with the anticipation that they may be replaced when future gravity-based sewers are installed to achieve the linkage toward wastewater treatment plants. Different municipalities maintain parts and operating knowledge of different types of pumps and thus the designs must not only address the needs of planned flows but also the familiarity based preferences of the intended operator.

Landplan Engineering has as in-house experts on different types of lift stations, increasingly odor control issues both at the lift station and at the receiving manhole, as well as further downstream, must be addressed for public acceptance. Landplan is a leader in design of development-sized lift stations as well as large permanent municipal stations. Our design philosophy is to reflect the long term capacity needs while cost-effectively meeting the most immediate identified flows, often by designing lift stations with variable speed pumps and/or pumps which can easily be switched-out for additional capacity.
