Landplan Engineering is
continuing our commitment to sustainable development with LEED™
accredited staff and support of the US Green Building Council.
Recognized as a leader in site and civil sustainable design as early as
1984, Wal-Mart retained Landplan Engineering for an environmentally
sensitive demonstration project. Key elements included collection of
gray water for use in irrigation; removal, relocation and replanting of
existing trees; collection of parking lot stormwater run-off, filtering,
and re-use for irrigating the lawns; and maximizing recycled site
materials.
Sustainable design has been incorporated into our design philosophy on a
regular basis, such as specification for recycled surfaces in four
tracks for the Lawrence School District, grass pavers in parking lots,
and multi-stage detention ponds. Illustrative of the firm’s value
engineering review is the re-use of stone in site features at a recent
center city Borders bookstore, where the architect strived to maintain
facades in redevelopment of an older structure.
With the US Green Building Council’s building certification program,
addressing the LEED™ points system has become important to our Clients
and allied design and construction team members. To ensure our staff’s
familiarity with the system, Landplan Engineering instituted a 12-week
in-house training system.
For those Clients with firm LEED™ certified goals for their projects,
Landplan Engineering assists in site selection. As our services
encompass development planning and platting, we encourage our Clients to
identify the level of LEED™ certification to be sought as early as
possible in the project cycle. Coordination of architectural, site
planning and construction materials choices can elevate the achievable
level of certification while building in the most environmentally
responsible manner possible.
