Olathe, Kansas
The Mahaffie Heritage Center opened in April 2008 to tell the story of the Mahaffie family and their connection to Olathe, Kansas and the Santa Fe Trail. The 8-acre site includes a life-size relief sculpture of a stagecoach, passengers and horses and features native plants and trees and 19th century ornamental plantings. A restored native prairie is proposed for future implementation.
The Mahaffie Historic Site contains the only remaining stagecoach stop open to the public on the Santa Fe Trail and is a certified historic site on the Santa Fe National Historic Trail by the National Park Service.
Landplan Engineering was part of a multi-disciplinary team, with responsibility for site civil engineering and landscape architecture, including earthwork, paving, erosion control and landscape plan.
